This prompt is accompanied with a short passage. In this case, the passage included tips on how to save water and why it was so important. Students should've gathered any tips they felt they needed to score well.
Above is what the students see when they receive their pre-assessments back. I know it's kind of hard to make out specifics, however, you can see the Trait areas that this child is scoring lower in, as well as the Traits he/she is excelling within.
Great data collection efforts, EM
ReplyDeleteI love that you use material that is similar to the material from the actual test. I just had a long discussion with my Dean of Students about doing this in every class on every assessment. I also like that you use the scoring rubric it allows students to know what they have to do to be successful. I think students should be measured by this rubric on every writing assignment to develop understanding and familiarity of it.
ReplyDeleteGeri,
DeleteI completely agree. I don't want my kids to have anxiety about assessments so I try to keep the same format and the same rubric as well, but those sometimes change with the mode of writing (argumentative, informative, narrative) as their are more particular requirements, however, I have the kids analyze the rubrics and this eases some worried minds as well.
